While Luke Skywalker grew up on Tatooine, Mara Jade was taken from her parents by the Emperor and trained in the ways of the Force to become his secret operative and personal assassin, known as the Emperor’s Hand. While Luke was bullseyeing womp rats, Mara was hunting Jedi who survived Order 66. Falling down down the Death Star’s reactor core, Palpatine called to Mara in the Force that she must eliminate Luke Skywalker.
Five years after the Battle of Endor, the two worked together to survive in the wilds of a planet whose predatory creatures blocked access to the Force. The two confronted a Dark Jedi Master and his dark side clone of Luke Skywalker. Obeying the Emperor’s final command, Mara eliminated the clone and rejected the dark side of the Force. Years later, they fell in love and married. The two then trained the next generation of Jedi Knights.
