Описание: Looking forward not back is likely high on the wish list of a cancer survivor. Some may struggle, and that’s where the STAR Program comes in.

“STAR stands for survivorship, training, and rehabilitation. It’s a nationally certified rehab program for cancer patients who are suffering from the effects of cancer treatment and/or cancer surgeries,” says Denise Pfeiffer, who is a STAR navigator with Lee Memorial Health System.

Provided through the Regional Cancer Center, the program includes doctors, nurses, therapists, dietitians and social workers, aiming their expertise at removing obstacles.

“What’s limiting patients from living and performing their normal functional daily activities um that are involved in caring for themselves, in returning to work, returning to family life, enjoying their leisure activities,” says Pfeiffer.

Millions of Americans count themselves among the cancer survivors. As a group they are expected to live longer and better than in years past. Getting there takes support.

“You are appropriate for the star survivorship program at any point and time in your cancer diagnosis. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, currently going through treatment, or even years after treatment,” says Pfeiffer.

A shining star in cancer care. Nationwide, the program is making a difference and helping people put cancer in the past.

“Absolutely, getting back your life and having quality of life as well as optimal function,” says Pfeiffer.
