Brain Injury and Depression: A Complicated Relationship

Описание: Depression is a problem for many brain injured people. In this presentation, Dr. Jerrod Brown, PhD., M.A., M.S., M.S., M.S., M.S., M.S., shares a comprehensive look at many different factors that contribute and make depression much worse for people with brain injury.

As a brain injury survivor I find this talk interesting because Dr. Brown gives a great large scale overview of many factors that can drive depression, and learning about these factors is super important to help others find ways to improve their lifesyle, also what to watch out for (smoking, diet, self care, etc.), plus this info is helpful for people in the world around us to learn what can help. Yet still the brain injury part remains invisible. So I see this talk as beneficial and helpful and also it is important to think about the other factors that make brain injury so much harder like the brain injury problems. For example, Dr. Brown discusses the importance of socializing and finding positive people to interact with. One of my friends who is brain injured watched this talk and mentioned that part really bothered her. She has many brain injured friends who are isolated, not by choice, and so those people don't have an option of socializing with positive people. Still the presentation helps other to learn why isolation is so dangerous.

Another example to consider here is a recording of many different types of "invisible" problems that come with brain injury. Having to deal with these invisible problems can fuel depression, especially when you cannot find the right help and people don't believe what you are saying:
