Night diving the largest shipwreck in Sydney the TSS Currajong

Описание: The 67.72m almost fully intact TSS Currajong is the largest shipwreck in Sydney Harbour a great dive for advanced or above certified scuba divers.

The 603 gross ton iron screw steamer TSS Currajong now lies in 26m of water in Sydney Harbour's shipping channel off Bradley's Head after sanking March 8th, 1910.

TSS Currajong was entering the port of Sydney Harbour also know as Port Jackson at 9pm on March 8th, 1910, at this time the huge 6000 ton passenger ship Wyreema was departing the harbour. These two ships meet at Bradley's Head, the Wyreema was on the wrong side of the shipping channel, the TSS Currajong went hard to starboard trying to avoid the Wyreema, however the two vessels collided. The Wyreema struck a glancing blow on the Currajong's post side almost amidships and the Currajong was doomed to her fate, with water flooding in fast the propellors raised out of the water and the Currajong sank coming to rest upright resting on her hull approximately 230m from Bradley's Head. The Currajong's helmsman, Hans Neilson was killed.

The wreck itself is not often dived due to its location and Sydney Port's Authority restrictions, dive operators and divers must follow strict guidelines before, during and after diving this ship wreck, one of which is to dive after all harbour shipping has stopped, which means diving after 1am.

This impressive ship wreck holds many interesting treasures for the diver to view and is loaded with marine life includiing, schooling fish, soft and hard corals, sponge corals, decorator crabs, hermit Crabs, six-spined leatherjacket, old wifes, sharks, bream and morwong.
