You simply can’t visit Thailand without being absolutely enamoured by all the delicious cuisine it has to offer, every dish from top restaurants to street food is delicious in its own way. That’s why, while here in the south, where spice and flavours are thought to be most intense, we tried our hand at a traditional Thai cooking class! There are so many traditional Thai dishes that we could have chosen from, but for this class we had opted for the famous Tom Yum Soup, Som Tum (Papaya Salad), Massaman Curry and Mango with coconut sticky rice. Kik and her assistant Ning showed us how to make every ingredient from scratch, which is something we really valued from the experience! If you love Thai cuisine as much as we do and are looking for an authentic Thai cooking class in Koh Phanang Proud Cooking class comes with our own highest recommendation. We had a blast and were even able to take the food we didn’t eat back home with us!

Koh Phangan is famous for its stunning beaches, jaw dropping waterfalls, amazing nightlife (full moon parties) and laid-back hippy lifestyle. But as a touristic haven few take the time to immerse themselves into the Thai Culture and learn more about how the locals do. We have never experienced a traditional cooking class in any country before, so we were both unsure on what to expect. However, we can now say whole heartedly that our experience with Proud Cooking did not disappoint!
The venue is located in the hippy, bohemian area of Koh Phangan, Sri Thanu which is in close proximity to the ever-popular Zen Beach. Proud Cooking class can be found a little further back from the sea front which sees it surrounded by the beautiful greenery the island so famously boasts. This provides the place its own wonderful feeling of secrecy and serenity in a usually busy area.
Kik was the head chef/ owner of Proud Cooking and everything made throughout the class originated from her own families’ recipes. She was extremely passionate about Thai food and took every opportunity to tell us about where each ingredient came from, where it was harvested, when certain fruits and vegetables where in season in Thailand and why Thai people used each specific ingredient in their recipes. We felt truly welcomed and comfortable throughout the whole day!
We ended our night by watching the sunset from Top Rock Bar, which in our opinion has one of the best viewpoints in the whole of Koh Phangan.
