Prune and watch what happens.✂️ Is it too late to prune rhododendrons and other flowering things? Ideally, pruning flowering shrubs should be done within a few weeks of flowering. That’s for YOU, not the plant because it maximizes the blooms for the following year. However, if you didn’t quite get to it, do it as soon as possible. Depending on when you prune and how much you take off, you may not get many or any blooms next year. Life goes on.
Early summer is a good time to prune. You won’t get as much vigorous growth as late winter/early spring, but go ahead and get it done—especially if you have plants that are covering windows, growing into walkways/driveways, or overpowering a space.✂️
Note: I would avoid pruning when you’re in a heatwave but if you must, make sure to give the plant LOTS of water.
