Mercy Health West opens "natural birthing suite"

Описание: CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A trend in pregnancy gets some new attention in the Tri-State.

The team at Mercy Health West is now joining in a new birthing trend that’s a change in the environment where women deliver.

Rather than lots of monitors and medications, the trend invites women into a more natural environment with extra support if needed.

Four weeks ago, little Rory was born in a “natural birth suite.”

Her mom, Lindsey Feldkamp, says that when it comes to her experience in the natural birthing suite: “It was amazing.”

The suite is designed for women who want to give birth without medication and traditional monitoring.

It's designed to have all the comforts of home with a medical team standing by.

There's a hydrotherapy tub for labor that's “relaxing, it takes the pressure off your body and your back,” according to Cheyenne Brown, a Mercy Health Certified Nurse Midwife.

A Swedish birthing chair allows the body to be positioned during birth in a number of ways. Moms have instruction ahead of delivery on how to use it. Sometimes it’s just helpful during labor, you can actually give birth on it.

There are also other tools, such as the peanut ball.

“Staying upright and moving around are the best things you can do,” said Cheyenne.

Which for Lindsay, made a big difference in what seemed like a long labor and delivery.

“We got here around noon and she was born at 5:09 [p.m.],” said Lindsay.

The team also points out that should you have a change of heart or your medical status, you also can move into a more traditional room.

Lindsey was the first mom to deliver in this natural birthing suite at Mercy West.

It does not change the cost for women and is only recommended for women at low risk for complications.

Some other area hospitals also offer birthing now without medication, but with more limited comfort tools such as the chairs and the tubs.
