I'm actually a little disappointed with myself that it took this long to talk about this game.
Chrono Ark is one of my favorite games of 2024. It's addictive in that way that I want roguelite games to be, and it has a surprising amount of plot.
The core gameplay loop of Chrono Ark is one we've seen probably a bajillion times, you go through a dungeon, fight some bosses, draft some party members, skills, and artifacts, and move on. Where the game shines is its surprising amount of plot, character gameplay, and just the general feel of enemy mechanics.
Most characters in the game have 2 playstyles, which you choose to spec into over the course of a run. Because the difficulty of the enemies scales kind of high near the end, it's important to decide pretty early on which specs you intend on building. In this run, I started with the sun/moon twins (they come in a pair) and ran a DoT build. That informed my remaining drafts to get me to really commit to ticking damage by the end of this run.
One of the things that I really enjoy about this game is how distinct the bosses feel from each other. The area 3 bosses in particular demand respect for their mechanics and punish reckless play in a way that's really satisfying. One recurring issue I have with a lot of roguelikes is that the difficulty curve tends to be negative, as your power level tends to outscale enemies in the latter half of a run. That's still true in this game to some extent, but it feels generally pretty tightly tuned.
There's something really satisfying about trying to land a clear with all of the characters. I love this game for the same reasons I love Library of Ruina, and it's an easy recommend from me.
