Today I stopped to document one of the biggest infrastructure projects happening in Ventura right now — the Olivas Park Drive Extension and Levee Project.
The City of Ventura is investing $51 million to extend Olivas Park Drive approximately 4,500 feet from Golf Course Drive to Auto Center Drive, while also constructing 5,400 feet of new levee and floodwall protection along the Santa Clara River. The project is designed to improve traffic circulation, enhance safety, reduce flood risk for the Ventura Auto Center businesses, and create new economic development opportunities in East Ventura. Construction began in August 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in Summer 2027.
In this vlog, I walk the current detour route, show where the road will connect to Johnson Drive, and talk about how this may impact local traffic patterns — including the controversial stop sign planned at the Johnson Drive off-ramp. It’s a very local story, but if you’ve got road expansions or development projects happening in your town, you might relate.
