The first batch of trucks carrying crude oil from Lokichar, Turkana County, have this evening arrived at the Changamwe refinery site in Mombasa.
The trucks took three days to arrive at the coastal town following Sunday's flagging off by President Uhuru Kenyatta. This first consignment will be officially received tomorrow by representatives from the ministry of Petroleum and Mining, Tullow Oil, Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited and the Kenya Pipeline Company. The crude oil from Ngamia 8, in the Turkana oil fields is part of the Early Oil Pilot Scheme, which will soon be followed by the Full Field Development phase as the country seeks to establish itself as a crude oil exporter in the region.
