Lindy Hop is a lively partnered dance with roots in African American communities of Harlem, New York, during the 1920s and 30s. It evolved from earlier dances like the Charleston and Breakaway, incorporating elements of jazz and tap. The name "Lindy Hop" is said to have originated from dancer "Shorty" George Snowden, inspired by Charles Lindbergh's 1927 transatlantic flight. The dance gained prominence at the Savoy Ballroom, a popular Harlem venue known for its integrated atmosphere.
