Forced Convection in Laminar Flow
Forced convection occurs when fluid motion is generated by an external source (such as a fan or pump) rather than by buoyancy forces. In laminar flow, the fluid moves in smooth layers or "laminae" without turbulence. When applied to flow inside a tube, the velocity profile is parabolic, with the maximum velocity at the center of the tube and zero velocity at the walls due to no-slip conditions.
For laminar flow under forced convection, the Nusselt number (Nu) is constant for fully developed flows in circular tubes. It’s a key dimensionless number that helps characterize heat transfer and depends on the Reynolds number (Re), Prandtl number (Pr), and tube geometry.
This method helps in designing efficient heat exchangers and understanding fluid behavior in both laminar and turbulent flow
