Kālidāsa has been the greatest yet most graceful exponent of Indian values. He has upheld the highest values of our tradition at the individual, societal and universal levels. He advocates an austere but aggressive pursuit of prosperity. He also advocates a moral but intense pursuit of desires. Kālidāsa has been the greatest yet most graceful exponent of Indian values. In Kalidasa's Kumārasambhava, the real purpose of beauty is not merely aesthetic, but also a transformative force. It's the beauty of Parvati, both her physical and spiritual beauty, that eventually draws Shiva out of his meditative seclusion and into the world, ultimately leading to the birth of Kartikeya, a warrior who will protect the gods and maintain cosmic order.
