Tom & Sophie MPT Pt 1 new

Описание: In March of 1990 (or maybe 1989; I'm not sure of the year), Tom Baker and Sophie Aldred appeared on Maryland Public Television. They were in town for a convention (BaltCon, maybe?) and appeared on air during the pledge drive. At the time, I was adamant about recording Doctor Who episodes, and I also recorded this as well, not knowing how special it would be to me one day. The two VHS tapes that this was recorded on remained at my parent's old farm house until I retrieved them in December of 2007.

I spent close to $200 on a VCR-DVD combo recorder, just especially for dubbing this appearance, which as far as I know has never made the rounds online.

The quality is remarkably good for cheap VHS tape that is nearly 20 years old. There are a few tracking issues in spots, especially at the beginning. But it's remarkably clean overall. Pt 4 is from a different tape, and some of the host segment was lost while I was switching the tapes. The sound is somewhat muffled on the second tape, unfortunately. It's still audible, just not as crisp. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the tape, or of the transmission, as the PSAs that aired have excellent sound.

Both Tom and Sophie tell stories that are familiar to many fans already, and new tales as well, and Tom discusses how much he supports Public Television, and what he thinks of those who do not. They're both wonderful and charming throughout. It was during this pledge drive, I think, that I made the pledge that earned me the TARDIS bank that I still have.
