The Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia's far-flung northern archipelago, are home to one of the most isolated communities on earth, lying nearly 5,000 km from the nearest continental landmass.

The Aranui 5 is the only ship to regularly call at the six islands.
It has served as a vital lifeline to the people of the Marquesas for 40 years and is such an essential part of the remote communities that they refer to it as the 'seventh Marquesan island’.
