This video focuses on the critical countdown phase for Space Shuttle Discovery's STS-133 mission, detailing the process between the start of propellant loading and ending just before crew ingress (T-3 hours). The technical procedures documented include the Cryogenic Propellant Loading of the External Tank (ET), where nearly 500,000 gallons of super-chilled Liquid Oxygen (LOX) and Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) are transferred into the tank, maintained at extreme low temperatures. Following this, the Final Inspection Team (Ice Team) performs a mandatory safety check, walking down the launch stack to visually inspect and remove any hazardous ice or frost buildup from the ET. Recorded February 24, 2011.
Discovery STS-133 Astronaut Crew:

Shuttlesource is dedicated to building the most complete, accessible, and historically accurate video archive of the Space Shuttle Program. Our mission is to preserve the stories, engineering achievements, and human experiences that defined shuttle operations from 1979 to 2011. By curating rare footage—from private collectors, NASA repositories, and the U.S. National Archives—we aim to make shuttle history available to everyone, forever.
This archive spans every mission and every era, showcasing launches, landings, astronaut training, mission operations, orbiter processing, press briefings, and the countless moments that shaped the Shuttle Program. More than a collection of videos, Shuttlesource exists to inspire students, researchers, and lifelong spaceflight fans by keeping this chapter of human spaceflight alive and accessible.
If you have rare or personal footage—including VHS tapes, home recordings, or audio—you can help strengthen the archive for future generations. Every contribution ensures that more of the program’s history is preserved and shared rather than lost to time.
