BBB warns homeowners about storm chasers after icy weather

Описание: As many people across the Midstate continue cleaning up from last weekend’s ice storm, the Better Business Bureau is warning homeowners to be on the lookout for scammers known as “storm chasers.”

According to the BBB, these individuals often move into storm-damaged areas shortly after severe weather, going door to door and offering quick, low-cost repairs for things like roofs, siding and fallen trees.

The concern, the BBB says, is that some of these contractors may not be legitimate.

The Better Business Bureau says not every out-of-town contractor is a scam, but many storm chasers may lack proper local licensing, insurance or the ability to complete the work they promise.

In some cases, homeowners are left with unfinished or poorly done repairs, or contractors disappear after being paid.

Because of that risk, the BBB recommends homeowners take a few important steps before hiring anyone.
