It's really sad, but Dib and his Dad don't really spend any time together. Prof.membrane is too busy with work and when the professor is available (it happened once in the show), Dib is too busy with the paranormal.

I think that Dib and Prof.Membrane are exactly alike.
1) Both are trying to save the world.
2) Both neglect other duties to fulfil their primary goal.
3) Both are obsessive.
4) Both are possible insane...neither recognize it.

I've long since retired, my son's moved away.
