Craigellachie
Founded in 1891
For most of the life of this obscure distillery, its output mostly went into blended Scotch whiskies. Currently owned by Bacardi through their subsidiary, John Dewars and Sons, you can well imagine that most of this distillery single malt has been sold as an ingredient of blended Scotch whiskies like Chivas.
In 2014, the owner of the distillery decided to release some single malts and so there was a 13 year, 17 and 21. Upon initial release, the 13 was a little wild. It has much improved since then
Region
Speyside
Age Statement
13 years
ABV 46%
Chill Filtration?
No.
Artificial Color?
Probably, although there is some debate online.
Nose (undiluted)
The nose is splendid. It serves up notes of sweet barley toys, oats, golden cereal, floral, dandelion and overall pleasantly fragrant.
Palate (undiluted)
A big punch of blood oranges and butterscotch that is quite explosive. Spiced marmalade, golden barley, buttered toast with brown sugar, viscous, grassy notes too. A big body.
Finish (undiluted)
Drying, white pepper, ginger lingers and grilled pineapple.
General Impressions
Very good! Price is reasonable too for the 12 year old single malt category. Really I have no complaints and I am quite impressed.
Highly recommended!
