Lord Jagannath is a highly revered form of Lord Vishnu, primarily worshipped in the sacred city of Puri, Odisha, and is considered a manifestation of Lord Krishna, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra. The name "Jagannath" means "Lord of the Universe" (Jagat = world, Nath = lord).

Key Aspects of Lord Jagannath:

1. Unique Idol:
The idol of Lord Jagannath is distinct, made of neem wood and renewed every 12–19 years in a grand ritual called Nabakalebara. The idol has large round eyes, a smiling face, and lacks hands and feet, symbolizing his formless and infinite nature.


2. Rath Yatra:
The most famous festival dedicated to him is the Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival), where the deities are taken out in grand processions on three massive wooden chariots. Millions of devotees gather in Puri to pull these chariots and seek blessings.


3. Jagannath Temple:
The Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It is considered so sacred that even the flag atop the temple is changed every day by hand, and it always flows in the opposite direction of the wind — a divine mystery.


4. Mahaprasad:
The temple’s kitchen is considered one of the largest in the world, where Mahaprasad (holy food) is prepared daily in earthen pots over wood fire. It is believed that no matter how many devotees visit, the food never falls short.


5. Symbol of Universal Brotherhood:
Lord Jagannath is worshipped by people of all castes and creeds, emphasizing unity, equality, and compassion — values that are central to his worship.



Belief and Devotion:

Devotees believe that Lord Jagannath is always accessible, compassionate, and quick to bless his followers. He is considered the lord who comes out of the temple once a year during Rath Yatra to bless even those who cannot enter the sanctum.
