“The Fall” - A Halo Reach OST Mini-Extension/Mix

Wait, a “Mini-Extension”? Is that even a thing? As a matter of fact, it is! A long ways back I uploaded such a video for Halo: Wars’ main theme, Spirit of Fire (titled “Spirit + 1”). Being a relatively early music video for me, it was an extremely simple mix where I just duplicated the main melody once to extend the theme a little bit. Thankfully, this addition to that barely-existing series is little a bit more involved than that! In fact, I originally expected to label it as a Suite Stitches. However, after looking it over I realized that it basically only really covers one track from one game. Thus, I felt that the extension name fit it better.

Anyway, let’s talk about the track itself. If it wasn’t already obvious, this is an extension of Lone Wolf (which is from the Winter Contingency suite). This is probably one of the most well-known tracks in Reach (you might even call it one of the main themes). While every instance of it in the campaign has the same tempo, it can vary from a subtle buildup to light action to intense action (all the while maintaining that Reach motif that characterizes the soundtrack). The OST version of the track pretty much only focuses on the intense action aspect, and while it does great at that (heck, I’d even say it does that aspect the best), I wanted to create a mix that takes advantage of those different in-game versions and slowly build up to that climactic ending that the OST provides. Plus it was fun to use more menu loops from the beta soundtrack. All-in-all I’m pretty happy with the result! Enjoy! :)
