The Noongar people lived in this area for over 40,000 years, fishing, hunting, and using the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) as a vital food and travel source.
🇬🇧 European Settlement (1829)
• In 1829, the British founded the Swan River Colony.
• Fremantle became the port city of Perth.
• Named after Captain Charles Fremantle, a British naval officer who claimed the land for Britain.

• Western Australia received convicts from England.
• Convicts built many important buildings, including:
• Fremantle Prison

• Fremantle became a busy port.
