Anthony Seeger is Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles. In this interview, he discusses his interest in music as related to politics and social life, graduate studies at the University of Chicago, research on social life and cosmology in an indigenous community in Brazil, experience as a faculty member and Director of the Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University, work in founding Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and the utility of ethnomusicology in recognizing diversity in musical cultures.
