Skiing holidays are often a week of intensive skiing, ie 2 or more hours of skiing each day. So this is a stimulus that the body is not used to and so on the morning after the first day skiing people often will feel like they have gone to the gym for the first time in ages.
Ideal preparation to avoid this spoiling the ski holiday would be to prepare on an artificial ski slope in the weeks preceding, or to do specific leg exercises in the gym. But you don't even have to go that far. Skiing and snowboarding have a similar prolonged stance position of bent hips and knees - or a partial squat.
This video shows how you can do this exercise and lunges from the warmth of your own home, so that your legs are 'match ready' for the slopes.
