(3 Aug 2014) About a thousand people participated in Hanoi's annual gay pride bike rally on Sunday in a rare show of support for equal rights and same-sex marriage.
People of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and their supporters travelled through the Vietnamese capital's busy streets.
Viet Pride ride participants wore T-shirts with messages supporting gay rights and same-sex marriage while waving rainbow flags.
It is the third time Vietnam has hosted the annual event.
Nguyen Thanh Tam, Director of Viet Pride 2014, said she hoped the annual rally would help "eliminate discrimination towards the LGBT community."
After the bike rally event, pride goers danced to music under a giant rainbow flag.
Gay rights have been making progress in Vietnam, although homosexuality is still generally considered a taboo subject.
