Good morning, welcome to Daily Forecast Australia, today, Friday April 17. My name is Lisa, thank you for being here, and without any delay let’s get straight into today’s forecast.

Today’s key focus is on severe thunderstorms across northwest Queensland, where slow-moving storms are producing heavy rainfall with a risk of flash flooding. At the same time, damaging winds are impacting parts of Tasmania following a cold front, with strong gusts across exposed and elevated areas.

A strong ridge of high pressure continues to dominate southern and central Australia, keeping conditions largely dry, while tropical moisture and a weak inland trough drive widespread convection across the north.
