On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, Gil Harel joined us for the second part of a 4-part Mozart series.
Mozart’s disastrous visit to Paris further strained his already-strained relationship with father Leopold. Returning to Salzburg, his fertile mind continued to churn out works, including a concerto for two pianos meant to showcase his sister and fellow virtuoso, “Nannerl.”
The biggest opportunity of this period came in the form of a commission to write an opera in the Italian seria tradition – this would become Idomineo, King of Crete, written for the Munich court of Elector Karl Theodore.
When no job was offered after the premier, Mozart soon made the decision to seek his fortune in Vienna. It was a decision that shaped the trajectory of his remaining years.
