Soap Shock! Why are White Chunks in My Hot Process Soap? Short Hot Process Soapmaking Tips

You add #GoatsMilk or #Yogurt, Additives, and Mold. When you cut your soap, white chunks of uncolored soap are present. You #troubleshoot: Were my #LyetoOil measurements correct? Did I let it #cook long enough or too long? Is this #ricing? Google, YouTube, and Facebook Soapmaking Groups say none of the above apply. You think it's another ugly, failed batch. Wait! Don't you dare toss that batch!!

Chances are, you shocked your soap. Here's how to avoid it. When adding post-cook additives, esp liquids or yogurt, be sure they are room temperature or warmer. I go warmer. This allows them to blend seamlessly into the soap without a drastic change in temperatures. The quick change in surface temperatures can cause some soap to harden and not blend as well. Hence, the white chunks.
#quicktips :
1. Avoid adding cold ingredients to hot soap.
2. Add any liquid ingredients before adding additives that might thicken the batch, ie, clays, fragrances
3. Spread your additive as you pour instead of dumping it in one spot.
4. Let it sit covered 2-4 minutes before stirring
5. Be sure to give it a really good stir.
