The Nova is a Rockchip RK3588S based single board computer. This one has 16GB RAM, and came with a 64GB eMMC drive. It came pre-assembled except for the fan, which is easy enough to install with the 4 included screws, and just plugs into a 5 volt (red) and ground pin (black). It is still being sold as of January of 2025, currently priced at $179.95 (plus taxes and shipping).
I installed Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy Jellyfish) on my 256 GB eMMC drive.
Also to flash eMMC without a eMMC writer, see:

For a nicer look, I have made a metal cover to go over the USB and Ethernet ports. I have painted it black, and will attach it with double-sided adhesive tape. There is a gap above the Ethernet port because it is shorter than the USB port, so I have cut a thin piece of wood, and will color it black with a marker to fill in that gap. You could also make this cover out of plastic instead of metal, and could use cardboard colored black, instead of wood. To further protect from accidental shorts, I ordered a silicon cover for the GPIO pins, and used a razor to cut away the silicon where the fan pins attach.
So you can see just how tiny this computer is, here it is next to a deck of playing cards. The footprint is slightly smaller in both directions, but the computer, even if I remove the fan, is still thicker than the deck of cards. The 64 GB eMMC drive that came pre-installed was flashed with Armbian, but I have Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy Jellyfish) flashed to the 256 GB eMMC drive that I bought.
ALL ONBOARD DEVICES WORK WITH THIS IMAGE.
The Nova lacks the M.2 connector that would let you attach a much faster NVMe drive, but the eMMC drive feels pretty snappy anyway, and is certainly faster than a Micro-SD (TF) card. The 2nd USB-C port will work as Video-Out port if you use the right cable. (This is NOT an Indiedroid Nova problem, but is true of all USB-C display-out ports. Not all USB-C cables will support Viideo-Out.) So be sure to use a cable that CAN work with Video-Out.
To install without an eMMC writer, see the following link:
https://wiki.indiedroid.us/how-to/fla...
Jammy Jellyfish runs an older 5.10 kernel, which will be supported until 2031.And there are many images being worked on. They include Armbian, Debian, Ubuntu, Not Quite Kali, BredOS, Arch, and Android among others. Check out:
https://www.indiedroid.us/software
Be aware that many of these images lack support for one or more of the following: WiFi, Bluetooth, Sound, USB, or WideVine. So be sure to look out for which images are “In Development”. Also check out those "highlights", “issues” and “notes” before installing. They will warn you which devices do and do not work.
