Описание: Nanga Parbat is the ninth-highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,126 meters (26,660 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, in the western Himalayas. The name "Nanga Parbat" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "Naked Mountain." In Urdu, it's also known as "Deo Mir," meaning mountain of the spirits.

Nickname:

“Killer Mountain” — due to the high number of climber fatalities, especially in the early 20th century. It was considered one of the most dangerous 8000-meter peaks before it was successfully climbed.

Geography and Features:

Nanga Parbat rises dramatically above the surrounding terrain, especially on the south face (Rupal Face), which is the highest mountain face in the world (~4,600 m or 15,000 ft from base to summit).

The Diamir Face (west side) is another major route.

It is part of the Himalaya Range, but very close to the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges.

Climbing History:

Many German expeditions attempted to summit Nanga Parbat in the 1930s, leading to multiple tragedies due to avalanches and extreme weather.

Hermann Buhl’s 1953 solo summit remains legendary — he spent 41 hours climbing without supplemental oxygen or high-altitude porters.

Winter ascents were long considered impossible until February 26, 2016, when it was first summited in winter by Simone Moro (Italy), Ali Sadpara (Pakistan), and Alex Txikon (Spain).
