PANDIT KALYAN BASU

Pandit Kalyan Basu is probably one among the very few living people in Kolkata and India who took Taleem under the Doyen of Indian Classical Music Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan [ Patiala Gharana ]. He pursued music from a very young age and his deep love in music drew him closer to Bade Ghulam.
He completed his Sangeet Visarad from Lucknow Morris College at the age of 23. And though he took the initial lessons of classical music from Ustad Dabir Khan [ descendant of Miya Tansen…Rampur Senia lineage ], he became a “nara-bandha” student of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali khan and continued his training under him till 1968. After the death of this legendary figure, Pandit Basu continued his training under Ustad Munawar Ali khan, son of Bade Ghulam Ali.
Though he is a master in the Patiala Style, he has composed innumerous Bengali Songs which are often sung by his students these days. These songs are very romantic and go well with the sentiments of all music lovers.
Pandit Basu is 90 years of age at present.
