Hello, and welcome back to Places - Lost in Time, a series that looks back on the tale of places and locations that have existing within living memory or photographic record, but are now lost to the pages of history.

This week, we're looking to a true pioneer, as in order to provide a fast and efficient means of transportation across the bustling, narrow and congested streets of Liverpool, the Port Authority developed an overhead electric railway that was the first of its kind in the world, a route that transported passengers in comfort while maintaining a working profit throughout its entire life, before the neglect of World War II, and the advanced corrosion of its Victorian-era structure, rapidly led to its demise.
