A PRISON PLANET...
It was around 2005 when I attended a "Jazz/Funk Gig" while living in Istanbul. It was slated as an 'Evening with the "James Taylor Quartet"... The sound of the band was centered around James' Hammond Organ... As expected, on the way to the gig "We are going to see Master Taylor" jokes were flying around... Regardless, it was a great concert reminding me of Master Winwood's "Organ Trio" idea...
Many years later, I came to the realisation that James used to be a founding member of the "Garage Rock" band - THE PRISONERS... which garnered a CULT following in the 1980s, becoming a HUGE name within both the "MOD-Revival" as well as the "Neo-Psychedelia" movements...
It was one Graham Day who was the OTHER founding member of THE PRISONERS together with James Taylor... Graham was becoming a HUGE name within all of these newly emerging GENRES at the time... Once the band disbanded and James went on to form his 'Quartet", Graham went on to form his own outfits as well... One of those - PLANET released their standalone album "Splitting the Humidity" in 1995... On the album, Graham dares to go there, even bringing on board Peter Shrubshall (IZIT) on the Flute...
If you ever wondered "What If" TRAFFIC recorded a heavier version of "40,000 Headmen"... This could come close to giving us an answer...
Enjoy Loud...
