As the 2025 matriculants prepare to enter the workplace and begin further studies that will shape their future careers, questions are being raised about their prospects of finding jobs under the current unemployment conditions. According to Statistics South Africa, the official unemployment rate for youth aged 15 to 34 stands at 46.1% in the second quarter of 2025, significantly higher than the national average of 33.2%. This raises concerns about whether schools are providing adequate career guidance to help young people choose appropriate subjects and make informed educational and occupational decisions.
