Several journalists and editors have described this moment as one of the darkest days in American journalism, raising concerns over media freedom and the weakening global information ecosystem. Despite being owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, the 149-year-old institution was not financially supported, even though it famously exposed the Watergate scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation. Among those laid off is Ishaan Tharoor, son of Indian MP Shashi Tharoor, who publicly expressed his heartbreak over losing his job.
