I want to talk to you about how I built my former Shopify dropshipping store from 0 to over $700,000 in total sales and sold it to my top competitor, all without using paid ads.

I focused on Shopify SEO because that’s my background. It took about six months to get traction, but by the 9 to 12-month mark, things really started to take off. I was in a high-volume niche with high-volume keywords, which brought in a lot of traffic.

Building a business with SEO might have been slower than using paid ads, but I believe in creating a sustainable brand. Many people treat dropshipping like a get-rich-quick scheme, but I focused on long-term growth. Dropshipping isn't new; it's been around since the early 2000s. The key is to build a brand, not just a quick money-making operation.

If you’re interested in dropshipping in 2024 and beyond, I encourage you to do it with the mindset of building a brand. Dropshipping can work if you focus on creating a real business. My success was due to applying my marketing skills, Shopify SEO, and CRO to my dropshipping store. Dropshipping is a business function, not magic.

Treat your store like an asset to make it appealing to potential buyers.

A lot of people come into dropshipping with unrealistic expectations. They think they can make $1,000 a day right off the bat, but that's rarely the case. My advice is to temper your expectations and focus on building skills. The reality is that building a successful dropshipping store takes time, effort, and knowledge.

My store's growth was steady, and I focused on building a solid foundation. I used good on-site Shopify SEO and link building to climb the rankings and get organic traffic. I was number one for my biggest keyword, which drove a lot of traffic and sales. Eventually, I got tired of running the store and decided to sell it. Because I had built it correctly, it was appealing to buyers.

When you're building your dropshipping store, think about the future. You might get tired of it or want to move on to another venture. If you build your store with intrinsic value, it will be easier to sell. Focus on good SEO work, conversion rate optimization, and multiple traffic channels. This will make your store more valuable and attractive to buyers.

So, back to my story. The reason I was able to build my store from 0 to over $700,000 in sales and sell it to a buyer was because I applied my online marketing skills to dropshipping. Dropshipping isn't magic; it's just a business tool. If you're wondering if dropshipping still works, the answer is yes. But you need to focus on building a business and a brand.

Many people get into dropshipping for the wrong reasons. They want to make a quick buck, but dropshipping is about building a long-term business. If you focus on building a brand and a real business, dropshipping can be very profitable.

When building your dropshipping store, remember that it’s about creating something valuable. You want your store to have intrinsic value, which means it should be appealing to buyers. This involves good SEO, multiple traffic channels, and a solid conversion rate. It's not just about running ads and making quick sales. It's about building a store that has value on its own.
