Adelaide is being linked to the world via the SMAP subsea cable connecting Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth.
Two years in the planning, it is a scheme to create a great southern route which brings the data of billions of people from Asia and the Middle East into Perth, then under Australia, keeping it far away from potential enemies.
“It [SMAP] stands for Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth,” SUBCO founder Bevan Slattery told Sky News Australia.
“Basically, what we’re doing is building a cable that connects the Pacific Ocean effectively to the Indian Ocean but also connecting the capital cities in between.”
