Savages - Pocahontas fan cover (Disney Villain Month) [RtG]

Описание: Week #3 of Disney Villain Month is here!

I'll be honest: this cover was VERY last minute. Originally I wanted to cover a song by Jafar; either "Prince Ali (Reprise) or "You're Only Second Rate". But I had SUCH a hard time finding/making an instrumental of the song that I had to ditch the idea. And, of course, I waited until Thursday morning to make that decision. I was also trying to avoid songs with more than one person singing. But, I figured that if I could do it inadvertently for "Be Prepared", then why not for another one as well? I just wish I had more time to practice this one before recording, but I wanted to make sure I met the deadline I had set for myself. So I apologize if this isn't my best work. I did what I could with the time I had.

Now, I know what some of you are probably thinking: if I was going to do a villain song from Pocahontas, why didn't I do "Mine, Mine, Mine"? Well, there are two reasons.

The first is that while Ratcliffe is the villain, and the song does focus on him manipulating his men in order to serve his lust for gold and status, the song is shared with John Smith who is singing about how this beautiful new world holds adventure and excitement. And while it does make for a nice contrast, it kind of took away from the idea of my theme for the month.

The second reason is that while "Savages" is also sung by Powhatan and Kekata, who are not villains themselves, there is an overlaying theme to the song of racism, ignorance and intolerance to which everyone falls victim. To me, it's not about Ratcliffe being the antagonist, it's about everyone losing themselves to this unseen villain; becoming something less than human while being unable to see it happening until it's almost too late. It's actually one of the reasons why I hate that Hans was the "villain" in Frozen. As an antagonist, he sucks, and I would much rather Disney had left it that fear and ignorance was the real villain. (That's right, NikoruChan18 I went there again! lol).
