Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in China where he will take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
It is Modi's first visit to China in about seven years and comes after the deadly border clashes between Indian and Chinese forces in 2020.
The summit featuring Russia's President Vladimir Putin alongside more than 20 world leaders in the northern port city of Tianjin has attracted intense global media attention.
The summit will be held from August 31 to September 1. The Chinese foreign ministry has said the security-centred grouping will be a key player in building a new type of international relations.
