Welcome to Wolf Data, From 1999 to the mid-2000s, global tourism revenues were dominated by the United States, followed by major European destinations such as France, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany. During the 2010s, international tourism expanded rapidly, with Asia-Pacific countries—especially China—gaining prominence alongside traditional leaders. The United States consistently remained the top tourism revenue earner, benefiting from high visitor spending rather than visitor volume alone. Europe maintained a strong collective presence, with Spain and France alternating positions among the top earners. The COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021) caused an unprecedented collapse in tourism revenues worldwide, sharply disrupting rankings. Recovery began in 2022, led by the U.S. and Europe, while Asia recovered more gradually due to travel restrictions. By 2025–2026, global tourism revenues largely rebounded, with the U.S., Spain, France, and emerging Asian destinations re-establishing themselves among the world’s top earners.
