Cyclone Tauktae, which is currently centred over Lakshadweep, intensified into a cyclonic storm today, according to a tweet by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The IMD issued an alert for Kerala and a red alert for Thiruvananthapuram on 14 May, in view of heavy rainfall warning. The department had predicted ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ in a few places and extremely heavy falls at ‘isolated places’ in the state. Rainfall might lead to water logging in low-lying areas. High waves and sea incursion damage have also been reported in the coastal areas.
