Mayfield Park was opened in 2022 on a former industrial site just south east of Manchester City Centre. It’s named after the former railway station, Manchester Mayfield, which opened in 1910.
The area was formally covered in old industrial buildings. After demolition, the park was laid out along the meandering river Medlock, which was uncovered. It had previously been culverted where the park is today.
Manchester has a long tradition of municipal parks in its suburbs. This is the first one in the central area since Hulme Park was opened in the late 90s.
