I became successful because I was afraid. I was driven by fear. I don't want the same for my kids.
But at a recent physician retreat, many doctors were asking "how can we raise kids who have work ethic and drive, when we are raising kids with so much more privilege than we had ourselves?"
In this episode, I unpack why it's wrong to believe that drive can only come from scarcity, and how we can raise the best kind of generous builders in the next generation if we set them up for success. Doing so requires open, ongoing communication about our own experiences, and reflection on the differences they are experiencing, without triggering guilt or shame.
