Held on 3rd December, 2025, this lecture on Experimental Design establishes it as the blueprint of research, beginning with a foundational distinction between ethical experimental designs (introducing a treatment) and Ex-Post Facto designs (studying causes after an event has occurred, such as disease). The training then progresses through various research structures, starting with the basic Before and After Without Control Design (pre-post) and improving it by adding a non-treated control group in the Before and After With Control Design. To enhance control and eliminate selection bias, the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) is introduced, where subjects are randomly assigned to groups, with an emphasis on using multiple groups (Random Replication Design) for better data robustness. Finally, the lecture highlights the advanced Randomized Block Design (RBD), explaining its critical role in controlling a specific, relevant extraneous variable (like IQ) by first dividing subjects into homogeneous blocks before randomly assigning them to treatment conditions, thereby preventing that variable from contaminating the treatment's observed effect and allowing for analysis of the treatment's efficacy within these specific subgroups.
