Spearman “Wingate Hen side” back cross hen. Paired with a New York Murphy WH cock.
Hen was hatched July 2021. This breeding could be considered an “outcross breeding” because the two strains are related, from my original Brown Red hen’s South Carolina family. Mr. Spearman bred and crossed Murphy Whitehackles with his Wingate Brown Reds.
Original description of North Briton fowl (the Whitehackles) included brown breasted (brown reds), along with the spangled, and light / dark reds. Also, Mr. Wingate bred North Briton blood into his “Irish Brown Reds” after his friend Holly Chappell crossed Wingate’s Brown Reds to his North Britons (Whitehackles).
