Hi Travis and Suzi! Ok, here’s my final pitch to encourage you to watch the 2003 Battlestar Galactica reboot series from NBC/Universal. This is the music from the original 1970s Battlestar Galactica series created by Glen Larson. The music from this series was written by the iconic film composer Stu Philipps who also wrote the music and theme songs to many iconic 70s and 80s TV series such as Quincy M.D., Buck Rogers, Knight Rider, and The Fall Guy. I do not recommend watching the original series unless you’re diehard 70s sci-fi nostalgia fans who like to watch campy feel-good shows. The pilot and the first few episodes have a lot of great moments, and the premise is excellent, but the episodes start getting sillier until nobody was watching them anymore. There was only one season. The 2003 rebooted series developed by Ronald D. Moore is an absolute masterpiece, and that is the one I’m encouraging you to watch. While there are lots of Easter eggs that nod to the original series, it isn’t critical to watch the original series to enjoy and appreciate the reboot. The clip here is the original 1970s opening theme and credits. To further point out the genius of film composer Bear McCreary who wrote the music for the rebooted series, pay attention to the main theme here. In the Battle of New Caprica scene from the rebooted series that I showed you previously, when the Battlestar Galactica first appears in the sky and starts falling through the atmosphere, the music you hear on the bagpipes is the main theme from the original series played backwards. It’s such an awesome show. I really hope you guys can find the time to watch it.
