This video covers the removal of the handbrake (e-brake) caliper from a 2013 Yamaha Viking ride in ATV. The caliper is completely stripped, the internals checked, lubricated and the caliper rebuilt and new brake pads fitted.
The caliper is then refitted to the vehicle and I show you how to adjust the handbrake using the adjuster on the rear of the caliper to ensure the handbrake gives maximum holding power without binding on when released.
Problems found during the strip down were a seized slider and a binding piston, notice how sluggish the actuation arm is at returning to the rest position when released, caused by contamination and a lack of grease on the o-ring and piston seals.
