New Mini-Z Tires for GL Racing GLR: Marka 05° Radial, Kyosho Super Low Height Slick 30°

Описание: Today, we are checking out 2 sets of tires that I'm planning to put on a GLR chassis. On the left is the newish Kyosho super low height slick tires in 30 degree (MZW40-30). The other is the Marka V1 5 degree radial tires (MZR-V1RR05).

My usual tire setup for MR-03 is Kyosho low height 30 deg slick front (MZW39-30) and wide radial 20 deg rear (MZW38-20). These kyosho tires are always a good default setup, especially for Mini-Z MR-03 brushed or brushless which is fast but not crazy fast. The tires generate a reasonable amount of grip on RCP, and from my experience so far the cars essentially don't traction roll either.

On the faster GLR-GT, I'm running PN tires. At the front are the KS-M low profile slick soft (KSM534). In the back, it's running on extra wide 14mm rims with KS-M radial super soft (KSM420).

The older Kyosho low height slick, in 30 degree, is measured at 23.3mm. The newer Kyosho super low height slick here, also in 30 degree, is clearly even thinner than the regular low height slick. It feels quite grippy even in 30 degrees. Diameter wise, it's 22.6mm, which is 0.7mm thinner. For people like me who don't have a tire truer, being able to use the tires straight out of the package is very convenient. For comparison, the PN KS-M low profile is 22.9mm. That's quite thin too and just as good for people who don't want to true tires.

Let's look at rear tires. The Kyosho wide radial in 20 degrees, has a diameter of 24.1mm. The PN KS-M 14mm radial is measured at 25.2mm. That's larger than the K20 by a non-trivial 1.1mm. Let's check out the Marka V1 05 degree radial tires. The first reaction is that it's huge. Immediately, the side wall looks much thicker. The Italian rubber compound feels soft, though not necessarily softer than the PN or Kyosho. The diameter of the tire is 26.0mm! That's larger than the PN by 0.8mm, and larger than the Kyosho by 1.9mm. If you are racing in a class with fixed gearing requirement, like superstock, the larger diameter of the Marka radial tires is a huge advantage. The tread pattern looks cool too.

Let's give them a quick run on a hardwood surface. With fresh rubber and clean floor, on a GLR which tends to enable massive rear end grip, the Marka tires do well. This is not a scientific comparison, but the Marka has more grip than the Kyosho 20 degree radial, but less than a fresh PN KS-M radial in 14mm.

Please excuse my shaky track footage once again. I'm no good at recording a video from the transmitter while driving. With the Marka tires running on a RCP foam surface, rear end traction was not an issue. The tires seem to work well on a well-dampened GLR chassis. Since the Marka radial performs quite well and because they are large, you will want to run them in fixed gearing classes.
