Heinrich Böll Stiftung Southeast Asia Regional Office spoke with Mae Happyair, Co-Founder of Non Non Non, a ‘women and queer collective’ community based in Bangkok. We also spoke with other two DJs from Malaysia and Myanmar who participated at the “Decode and Create” workshop, organized by Non Non Non in collaboration with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Southeast Asia. We learned about their work and aspirations in using music – as a tool to create safe spaces for queer people, as well as an inclusive platform with respectful boundaries for all genders and LGBTIQ+ people. Additionally, we learned from their perspectives regarding Thailand’s Marriage Equality Bill, which will be effective on 23 January 2025. The video conveys hopeful messages for our society to be more open and to embrace the queer community and all genders equally, to be treated as the same human beings on the same level.
