Can someone succeed in university at age 40, 50, or even 70?
Research says yes.
A study from the University of Tasmania through the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, published in Nature's Science of Learning, found that age has no effect on academic success among university students aged 50 to 79.
The research, part of the Tasmanian Healthy Brain Project, examined the academic performance of 329 mature-age students and discovered something powerful:
Many factors that influence younger students — such as IQ, anxiety, social pressure, and depression — do not significantly affect the academic success of older learners.
According to Professor James Vickers, older adults succeed in university because they bring life experience, discipline, motivation, and strong language skills developed over decades.
This explains why many mature-age students thrive in higher education despite busy schedules, financial responsibilities, and family commitments.
On this channel, Rowel De Paz shares real experiences and insights about:
• Being a working student
• Studying at university in your mature years
• Managing work, family, and education
• Overcoming financial and time challenges
• Achieving personal growth through education
Because the truth is simple:
Never Too Late. Never Too Busy. Never Too Broke to Dream.
Study • Family • Growth
